Dr. Michael Boakye-Yiadom Appointed Director General of UNESCO Category II Institute

Dr. Michael Boakye-Yiadom, has been appointed as the Director General of the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) which is now a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Category II Institute.

The appointment of Dr. Boakye-Yiadom who is the first Director General of IEPA UNESCO Category II is for a four-year term renewable subject to satisfactory performance as determined by the Governing Board of the Institute.

Education

The newly appointed Director-General of the UNESCO Category II Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA), University of Cape Coast, Ghana, earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, USA. Dr. Boakye-Yiadom received his Master of Educational Administration and Bachelor of Education Degrees from the University of Cape Coast.

Experience

Prior to joining the IEPA faculty as a research fellow, he served as Dean of Students at Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee, USA; Residential Coordinator at Ohio University; and Hall Administrator at Valco Hall, UCC. Dr. Boakye-Yiadom served as College Improvement Advisor for the Colleges of Education in Ghana under the Government of Ghana / Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-tel) programme. Furthermore, he serves as Higher Education and Student Affairs Consultant for Webster University Ghana and the Association of African Universities (AAU).  Dr. Boakye-Yiadom’s research interests include international and comparative higher education and student affairs, educational leadership, inclusive campus environment, and school improvement.

Dr. Michael Boakye-Yiadom is committed to mentoring, educating, and learning from others. He brings his practical experiences to the classroom and develops an intentional approach of applying theory to practice in his engagement with students, faculty, staff, and policy makers. His engagement with educational institutions in Africa, Europe, and North America is supported through collaborative research and innovations in education. Throughout his career, he has presented research and facilitated workshops at local, national, regional, and international levels.
