Activities

  1. IEPA has organised Regional Sensitisation Workshops for stakeholders in Education on the Education 2030 Agenda in collaboration with the Ghana National Commission for UNESCO- Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, and the Central Regions of Ghana, 2018
  2. The Institute conducted a study on “Barriers to Girls’ Completion of Junior High Schools in Kpandai and Krachi East Districts” in collaboration with Girls’ Education Unit, Ghana Education Service and UNICEF Ghana, 2018. The study provided baseline information for an action plan to help address identified barriers.
  3. The Institute was also involved in a tracer study of its past students. It was a Sub-regional study that sought to explore the placement and utilization of IEPA graduates and the views of the graduates and employers for improving IEPA programmes, 2018.
  4. Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-Tel) in Colleges of Education in Ghana.  The IEPA is leading the leadership and management component of the T-Tel project focusing on building the capacity of the Colleges of Education leadership as they transit to tertiary status.  The three (3)- year project being sponsored by DfiD is ending in 2018. The expectation is that through our continued support and intervention, the college leaders will be able to improve both their practice and effectiveness.
  5. The Institute is conducting a study of Instructional Leadership Practices of School Heads in Ghana to develop best operating practices for school improvement, 2018.
  6. The Institute organised a Colloquium on 21st Century Skills for Educational Administrators, Managers and Planners, 2018.

Previous Activities

  1. IEPA has completed many research projects including Nuffic: (A Dutch government-funded project) Leadership and Management Capacity Building for Ghanaian Polytechnics (2005-2010) in partnership with Vrije University, Amsterdam. This project involved conducting research on the capacity development needs of middle managers in the ten polytechnics in Ghana.
  2. The IEPA supported the development of Basic Schools Head Teachers Hand Book in 2010 to Guide Basic School Administration in Ghana
  3. The IEPA developed Quality Indicators for the National Inspectorate Board to assure standards in Pre-Tertiary Education in Ghana, 2011
  4. IEPA has organised training and capacity strengthening programmes in collaboration with Teacher Education Division of Ghana Education Service, the British Council, and Plan Ghana (TAP PROJECT) 2011.
  5. IEPA participated in an EdQual project on implementing Education Quality in Low-Income Countries (2006-2011). The collaborating partners were University of Bristol and University of Dar-es-Salam.
  6. Leadership for Learning (LfL) project: Which involved improving Leadership and Learning in Basic Schools in Ghana (2009-2012). This was in partnership with Cambridge University. The Institute also supported the production of a training manual for the GES on the LfL principles which the GES continues to use to train school leaders today. This project contributed to the publication of a leadership for learning manual for schools.
  7. Activity Based Learning (ABL) project sponsored by DfID, Ghana to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Ghanaian basic schools through the utilisation of activity-based learning (ABL) pedagogy (2011-2012)
  8. The Institute coordinated the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP, Paris) Distance Programme on Education Sector Planning, from 2008 to 2012.
  9. Professional Development Workshop on “Strengthening Leadership Capacity” for Heads of Senior High Schools, held at University of Cape Coast, 2013.
  10. IEPA conducted Leadership and Management Capacity workshop for Faith-based Educational Institutions with the view to strengthen their collaborative capacity in supporting Government efforts in providing quality Education, 2013
  11. Capacity Building Workshop on Assuring Best Practices in Tertiary Institutions for Principals of Colleges of Education, Held in Kumasi, 2014.
  12. The Institute organised Capacity Building Workshops on School Improvement for Basic School Heads and Administrators at various parts of the country including the following: Apam, in the Central Region, 2011; Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, 2013, Twifo Praso Central Region, 2013; Mankranso in the Ashanti Region, 2015, Elmina and Twifo-Hemang in the Central Region, 2016.
  13. The Institute conducted a UNICEF funded research on District and Community-Based Structures (DCS) commissioned by the Basic Education Division (BED) of Ghana Education Service to identify the roles of community stakeholders in planning and developing policy initiatives at the school and community levels, 2017.
