Prof. (Bro) Michael Amakyi
Associate Professor

Prof.  (Bro) Michael Amakyi is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, a UNESCO Category II Centre of Excellence at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana.

He started his career at IEPA as a lecturer in 2010 and has risen through the ranks to become an Associate Professor since 2019.  From 2017 to 2020, Professor Amakyi was the Director at IEPA who led the institute to become a UNESCO Category II Centre of Excellence for the West African region. 

Prof. Amakyi holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, OH – USA, an MBA in Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration – Ghana, and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. 

Prof. Amakyi loves to research in issues relating to the improvement of the educational sector. His research interests are in the areas of Educational Leadership and Planning, Organizational Development, School Improvement and Educational Change, Evidence-based Practice and Financial Administration in Education. His recent major research published are: Transnational educational partnership in Ghana (2020) Profile of Education Planning Officers at Metropolitan/Municipal/District Education Offices in Ghana (2019) and Basic Education Division of GES and UNICEF funded. Capacity assessment of district and community-based structures in basic education delivery (2018).

Prof. Amakyi has numerous publications, journals and articles to his name. The most recent ones are: A focus on craft knowledge in the preparation of school heads in Ghana.  P. Moorosi and T. Prof. Amakyi currently serves as the Board Chairman of Gomoa Gyaman Senior High School and is the Lead Facilitator of Edify Leadership Institute, Accra.
